Real Madrid are set to offer Portugese defender Pepe a new contract at the club in order to ward off interest from both Manchester City and Chelsea, according to the Independent.
It was previously reported that Pepe wanted a two-year deal from Real Madrid in order to keep him, but he will only be offered a one-year extension.
It is hoped that one-year will be enough to keep Pepe at the club, at least for now, and away from the awaiting hands of both Manchester City and Chelsea who are looking to improve their defences.
Pep Guardiola could do with an experienced centre-back to sit alongside John Stones and cannot rely on Vincent Kompany for that due to injury concerns.
Whether Pepe will leave in the summer remains to be seen, but moves from Real Madrid suggest that they don’t want him to leave to another European club.
For a limited time, you can get your hands on a Manchester City home shirt from just £30 for adults and £22.50 for children.
