Considered to be one of Serie A’s breakout stars of the season, 20-year-old Atalanta midfielder Franck Kessié is attracting interest from across Europe, including the Premier League.
Speaking to Rai Sport (via Football Italia), his agent, George Atangana, has today name-dropped three Premier League clubs who are interested parties – and you guessed it, Manchester City is one of them.
While admitting that Roma are in the lead for Kessié, an Ivory Coast international with 15 caps to his name, he spoke of widespread interest in his client, also noting that very few clubs could afford him.
On Premier League interest in Kessié, Atangana remarked, “There are many overseas clubs interested in him. Manchester City, where his friend Yaya Touré plays in the same role. Liverpool, where their manager Jurgen Klopp knows how to help young players develop.
“And then there’s Arsenal, whose manager is very close to French-speaking players. I have to say they are not the only Premier League clubs who are after him, as there are many more too.”
City are expected to be in the market for at least one central midfielder, with William Carvalho of Sporting CP strongly rumoured to be on Pep Guardiola’s radar. But could it be one of Yaya Touré’s own countrymen and, according to the agent, a personal friend, who ultimately succeeds him in the City midfield?
