Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho is poised to remain at the Etihad this summer in order to fight for his place in the team under Pep Guardiola, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
Iheanacho has been afforded limited opportunities this season, making just 24 appearances (the majority of which from the bench), with the form of Sergio Agüero and the arrival of Gabriel Jesus denting the Nigerian’s game-time.
This had led to speculation that 20-year-old could be axed as part of Guardiola’s summer overhaul – whether it be on loan or permanently – but the frontman, who has found the net on seven occasions this season, insists that he is ‘very happy’ at the club and will continue to work hard to earn his place in the team.
“I’m very happy and very grateful to be in this team. I keep working hard every day and when I get my chance I have to prove to everyone I need to be in the squad,” said Iheanacho. “I am improving every day. I keep learning and improving and that will help me in the future. I love it here.”
