Manchester City may be closing in on their first signing of the summer, with the Sunday People claiming that the club believe that they will sign Tottenham left-back Danny Rose this summer as a solution to the problematic left-back role.
City are in the market for new full-backs, with the contracts of Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna, and Gael Clichy all set to expire in the summer, and Rose could be the first piece of a rebuilt puzzle for manager Pep Guardiola.
Reports emerged a few weeks ago linking City with a move for 26-year-old Rose, but confidence is understood to have grown since then after Tottenham identified Manchester United misfit Luke Shaw as a candidate to replace their highly-rated left-back.
Rose’s services will reportedly come at the cost of £50m but he also fits the homegrown quota and is thought to be the perfect start for Guardiola’s summer revamp of what has become a depleted squad.
Spanish newspapers also claimed, today, that José Gayà has been prioritised by Guardiola in the transfer window – could City be looking to sign two new left-backs before the start of next season?
