According to L’Équipe this morning, Fabinho has a gentleman’s agreement with AS Monaco’s Vice President to leave this summer after resisting a big move away the season previous. Fabinho has long been courted by City, with Pep Guardiola and Txiki Begirisitain both rumoured to be big fans of the 23-year old who’s capable of playing at right-back and in central midfield.
Given his flexibility and his coolness under pressure in central areas, Fabinho could be an absolute revelation as an inverted right-back in Pep’s system. L’Équipe seem quite confident of a deal, too – labelling City as the Brazilian’s “most likely destination.”
Just like most of Guardiola’s defensive targets though, Fabinho offers a lot going forward. He’s an excellent penalty taker, with a 15/15 record in his AS Monaco career. In total, he’s racked-up 11 goals and 7 assists in all competitions this season, not bad for a defender/defensive midfielder!
