I was tempted to put Benjamin Mendy here, but the simple reality is that City need to sign English players. Signing English players for the sake of it is a pointless task, so we should go after the very best English players, and Rose certainly fits that bill. He is an extremely dynamic player with a lot of pace, and he has gradually improved as a one on one defender under Mauricio Pochettino.

What makes Rose so attractive, is that he thrives in both a back four, and a back three, and Pep has largely been unable to employ a three-at-the-back formation purely because our full-backs offer nothing in the final third. Rose is different though. He has the extra burst of pace that can stretch defences and open up space in the ‘half-spaces’ for the likes of Leroy Sané and Gabriel Jesus to cause havoc. He creates more chances than any other defender in the League, and Pep would love to get his hands on a player who has so much potential to be utilised in different areas of the pitch.
