Kevin De Bruyne is the most creative player in Europe, based on chances created, according to a new study by the CIES Football Observatory.
The City playmaker scored 95 in CIES’ statistics-driven study (based on the last 1,000 domestic minutes played), ahead of Alejandro Gómez, Neymar and Ryad Boudebouz, who all had a score of 94 in second place. KDB has nine Premier League assists this season, the same as his total in the last campaign, despite often finding himself in a deeper role than he did under Manuel Pellegrini.
Meanwhile, City defender Nicolás Otamendi has been ranked the most ‘rigorous’ player in Europe’s big-5 leagues, ahead of PSG star Marquinhos and Bayern Munich’s Javi Martínez. The CIES definition of this category states: ‘Rigour is the ability to minimise goal opportunities for opponents through robust duelling.’
Otamendi is known for not holding back and being a tenious defender, so this one shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise! His regular partner in the centre of City’s defence, Aleksandar Kolarov, ranked ninth in the same category.
