Manchester City and Chelsea are set to go head-to-head in an attempt to take Leonardo Bonucci away from Juventus after tempers flared between the player and club.
Manchester City made advances for the 29-year-old in the summer transfer window after missing out on Aymeric Laporte, but according to reports from The Independent, Pep Guardiola’s side are set to fight Chelsea for his signature.
However, Chelsea’s Antonio Conte has made Bonucci his priority target in the upcoming summer and his previous relationships with the player for both Italy and Juventus may provide them with an added edge.
Bonucci has declared interest in playing in the Premier League and Manchester City CEO, Ferran Soriano, stated that the player wanted to join the club in the summer. “The Italian central defender Bonucci wanted to play for him [Guardiola] and he called us. So I called the Juventus sporting director [Fabio Paratici], and he told me they didn’t want to sell. End of story.”
It will be an interesting race and one that will leave us guessing at who will win – Juventus, Chelsea or Manchester City?
