Has any footballer ever been linked with Manchester City as much as Isco?
This is Isco holding up a City shirt many years ago, in case you’re among the few to have missed this viral photo.
The 24-year-old Spain international came so close to joining City in 2013, that fans already had a song ready for him. Then came the call from Zinedine Zidane of Real Madrid and the rest is history.
Fast forward a few years and two Champions League trophies later, Isco is said to be unhappy and fed up of being on the bench so much at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The gifted playmaker did star at the weekend against Espanyol, with two assists in a 2-0 win, but Mundo Deportivo claim he’s had enough and is ready to move in the summer.
Isco has played many times for Real Madrid, but has never really become an important player in the side under several coaches, and the former Málaga man is believed to fancy the idea of becoming a key player in another team.
And Mundo Deportivo plays up the idea of him becoming the 13th player to make the controversial switch from Real Madrid to Barcelona, who are known to be long-term admirers of the player.
Of more interest to fans of City and two other clubs, though, is the claim by journalist Roger Torelló that Isco already ‘has offers on the table’ from Manchester City, Chelsea and Juventus. He offers no further details but his wording is quite clear.
While Isco is capable of playing wide, he prefers a central position, and with City already having David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne, his ambition of being the centerpiece of a top side might be difficult at City. Nevertheless, he is the type of player that Pep Guardiola would surely like to coach, possessing great vision and technical ability.
Could the ‘Isco Disco’ still be on? Many names will fill the gossip columns in recent months, but a move to the Etihad would end a saga that has spanned four years and many transfer windows…
