An unfamiliar challenge awaits Manchester City today as they visit the John Smith’s Stadium to face a side they last met at the turn of the millennium, Huddersfield Town, in the FA Cup Fifth Round.
David Wagner’s side could be meeting City again next season if their rich form continues, as they sit third in the Championship with promotion to the Premier League in sight. Today they will be without Australian midfielder, Aaron Mooy, one of their key players this season, because he belongs to City and is on loan, rendering him ineligible under FA rules.
Nevertheless, City must be wary of a team that is playing good football and will be backed by potentially a stadium record crowd of over 24,000.
Referee Anthony Taylor is in charge of today’s fixture, and here are the sides Pep Guardiola and David Wagner have opted for this afternoon:
Huddersfield Town XI: Coleman, Whitehead, Hudson (c), Biling, Holmes-Dennis, Cranie, Payne, Van La Parra, Lolley, Quaner, Stankovic
Manchester City XI: Bravo, Zabaleta (c), Stones, Otamendi, Kolarov, Fernando, Delph, Fernandinho, Nolito, Navas, Aguero
