Manchester City may not be the only club interested in Benfica goalkeeper Ederson Moraes, but are his most likely destination if he is to leave Lisbon this summer.
That is according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, who report today that there was an emissary from Barcelona at the Estádio da Luz on Sunday to watch Ederson feature for Benfica against Nacional.
Ederson has the characteristics of a goalkeeper ideal for both City and Barça, but as A Bola reports, the Catalan club already have two high-quality shot-stoppers on the books in the form of Marc-André ter Stegen and Jasper Cillessen. Manchester City, on the other hand, plan to sell Joe Hart, leaving them with Claudio Bravo, who is struggling to adapt to English football, and Willy Caballero, a back-up goalkeeper who is out of contract in the summer.
And this means City are well positioned to sign 23-year-old Ederson, who Benfica are open to selling, as they look to raise record revenues in the summer.
Because he would be a guaranteed start at the Etihad, Pep Guardiola’s side are a logical next step for Ederson Moraes should an official bid be made. And at 23 years of age, if he settles in well, it would give City the long-term goalkeeper they need to play Pep Guardiola’s style of playing out from the back.
