Well, who expected this? ‘Little’ Manchester City, the club with no fans (despite average attendances over 50,000!), have been the most watched Premier League club on television in the USA this season, based on viewership per game.
City, who also had the two most watched individual games (vs. Liverpool on 31 December and vs. Tottenham on 21 January), have averaged 513,421 viewers per match this season, ahead of second placed Manchester United (510,958). City have had 19 matches broadcast, the joint fifth most of the Premier League sides.
Here is the table in full (courtesy of @Spurs_US on Twitter) that shows maybe City’s pre-season tours of the USA have resulted in a growing fan base over there. That, or we just play the best football in the league, win, lose or draw, attracting plenty of neutrals to watch Pep Guardiola’s side.
