Manchester City and Arsenal have been chasing former Stoke City midfielder Steven N’Zonzi recently but it was reported that neither wanted to sign him this January.
N’Zonzi, 30, had a release clause of €30 million but the renewal will see a new clause implemented, which is expected to be higher.
The midfielder has hit form since joining La Liga side Sevilla and the contract renewal will be a kick in the teeth for Pep Guardiola and Arsene Wenger if the interest from both clubs was to be taken seriously.
Steven N’Zonzi’s contract extension is only for another year however, keeping him at the club until 2020. There is still a chance that Arsenal and Manchester City renew their interest in order to get N’Zonzi back to England but they may have to pay a lot more for the star, which may mean no more interest from the sides.
The contract extension was confirmed on Sevilla’s official website today.
