The FA Cup has a special place in the hearts of Manchester City fans. It was this trophy that ended a decades-long drought back in 2011, when City famously beat United at Wembley in the semi-finals before returning to overcome Stoke in the final. Since then, the Blues have reached one FA Cup final, a crushing loss to Wigan in 2013 that turned out to be Roberto Mancini’s last stand.
Last year, Manuel Pellegrini threw away any chance of the FA Cup, fielding youngsters against Chelsea to focus on the Champions League. With the Premier League looking a distant dream in Pep Guardiola’s debut season, the FA Cup could realistically be City’s best and only hope of silverware, unless of something special in the Champions League.
Today, City visit Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace with a spot in the FA Cup 5th Round on the line. A win today would move City within just two wins of a return to Wembley for the semi-finals.
Mike Jones is today’s referee and here are the lineups Guardiola and Sam Allardyce have named:
Crystal Palace XI: Hennessey, Ward, Kelly, Tomkins, Schlupp, Flamini, Ledley, Mutch, Townsend, Lee, Benteke
Manchester City XI: Caballero, Sagna, Kompany, Kolarov, Clichy, Touré, Delph, Silva, Sterling, Sané, Gabriel Jesus
