Despite widespread reports from reliable journalists in both Germany and England, Holger Badstuber will not be joining Manchester City this month.
The 27-year-old Bayern Munich and Germany defender was tipped to head to the Etihad Stadium on a six-month loan, with reports from Kicker (one of the most reputable newspapers in Germany) and many well-known English journalists suggesting a deal was likely.
However, Badstuber has today joined Schalke 04 for the rest of the season, subject to a medical.

It is unclear if City actually missed out on the centre-back or if their interest was exaggerated in the first place, but Pep Guardiola himself said if there was any transfer activity this month, it would most likely be to strengthen the defence, so perhaps the Blues have another target in mind.
Southampton star Virgil van Dijk has been linked persistently over the past month, while moves for young La Liga defenders Aymeric Laporte and Lucas Hernández have been reported as possibilities for the summer by different sources.
