Kevin De Bruyne’s agent: If an offer came from China for KDB? My advice would be…

There seems to be no end to the Chinese Super League’s spending power, with Oscar’s £60 million move from Chelsea to Shanghai SIPG this week showing that even young players can be lured by the riches of the Orient. Former Manchester City star, Carlos Tevez, is also on his way to China where he will reportedly become the world’s best-paid footballer.

So what would happen if a top City star was approached? Kevin De Bruyne’s agent, Patrick De Koster, was quizzed about that possibility in an interview with Sporza, and had the following to say:

“My friends have already asked me that question. I would never advise him to go there. Money is one thing, but football is fun, and it’s important to have fun with your job. It’s an interesting option for mature players to go there.

If I was the agent of Oscar, I’m not sure I could recommend it to him. You’re running the risk of falling into oblivion. But on the other side, if after four years in oblivion you end up with 160m in your bank account, then maybe it’s not so bad.”

So City fans need fear not the idea of KDB leaving for China any time soon, and most likely any other star who has a key role in the first-team squad.

One player who is considering a move to the CSL, however, is Wilfried Bony, who has a clause in his loan deal with Stoke that allows him to leave for China in January if a club can strike a deal with City.
