England’s number one Joe Hart has emerged as a surprise target for champions Leicester City, who fear their current goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel will be lured away from the club.
According to an exclusive in the Sun on Sunday, Leicester bosses have discreetly made their interest in Hart known behind the scenes.
Hart, who is currently on loan at Torino for the season, will leave the Etihad Stadium permanently next summer with West Ham also interested and Spurs said to have an eye on him. And The Sun reports that there are several huge fans of the 29-year-old on the staff at Leicester.
Even more interesting is the information that City are admirers of 30-year-old Kasper Schmeichel, the man Hart could replace in this scenario, raising the prospect of an incredible swap deal next summer.
Schmeichel was trained at City’s academy and like Hart, is classified as home-grown, but unlike Joe, would also count as club-trained in the Champions League squad were he ever to return to the club he left in 2009.
With Willy Caballero’s contract up next summer, City are likely to bring in a new shot-stopper, and while Schmeichel is now linked, it is Benfica’s Ederson Moraes who is being most regularly linked with a move to Pep Guardiola’s side.
