Having traded wins on the pitch recently in the Champions League, Manchester City and Barcelona could soon fight it out for a highly-rated young talent, with Red Bull Salzburg defender Dayot Upamecano on the agenda of both clubs according to Catalan newspaper SPORT.
The 18-year-old centre-back joined Red Bull Salzburg in July 2015 for a reported fee of €2.2 million, after reports that he was close to joining Manchester United. Since then, his performances in both the T-Mobile Bundesliga and Europa League for Salzburg have caught the eyes of many clubs.
City and Barcelona are reported to be showing strong interest in the French youth international, along with a number of unnamed Premier League clubs. His technical ability has caught the eye of scouts, with Red Bull coach Òscar Garcia even using him as a central midfielder at times.
If both clubs decide to formalise their interest after positive scouting reports, it could be Barça who have the advantage over their rivals, with Upamecano said to be a big fan of the club.
