38-year-old Anthony Taylor has been named referee for this weekend’s big match between Manchester City and Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.
The Wythenshawe-born official hasn’t taken charge of a City game so far this season, his last appointment coming in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal in May.
Prior to that, he oversaw City’s 3-1 defeat to Leicester at the Etihad and the 4-1 win over Sunderland a year ago.
Taylor has already officiated two Chelsea games this season, both of them wins (over West Ham and Hull). In the heated Chelsea vs. West Ham fixture, he proved he isn’t afraid to dish out cards, handing out seven yellows in total.
The match officials for this weekend’s game in full are:
Referee: Anthony Taylor
Assistants: S Burt, A Nunn
Fourth official: Mike Dean
