Manchester City and Juventus are ready to fight it out for Arsenal star Alexis Sánchez if he fails to agree a new contract, according to an exclusive report in the Sunday Mirror.
The 27-year-old Chilean, one of the standout players for Arsenal since his £31.7 million move to the Emirates from Barcelona, still hasn’t agreed terms on a new contract and his existing deal will have just 12 months remaining if the situation isn’t resolved by next summer.
This has both City and Juventus on high alert, according to the Mirror, with both clubs ready to wage war for his signature if he doesn’t extend his deal. Even should his contract have only 12 months left on it, a £50 million fee is mentioned for the attacker, who is enjoying an excellent season with 8 goals in 13 appearances for the Gunners.
City and Juventus both wanted Sánchez when he was at Udinese, but Barcelona – then coached by Pep Guardiola – won the race to sign him in 2011.
Arsenal are determined to keep both Sánchez and Mesut Özil by handing them new deals soon, but City are monitoring the situation and ready to pounce if Sánchez rejects further contract offers.
