City came crashing down from the dizzy heights of Tuesday’s win against Barcelona after Marten De Roon’s stoppage time header snatched all three points from the Blues. It was a frustrating game that City dominated, but Boro seemed to want it more in the second half, something which Pep Guardiola will be very unhappy with. Let’s take a look at how the individual players performed:
Claudio Bravo – 6
Made a great save from Forshaw early on in the second half, but will be disappointed to have let in Middlesbrough’s equaliser.
Pablo Zabaleta – 6.5
Like his fellow defenders, didn’t have much to do, but did whatever was asked of him adequately.
John Stones – 7
A solid performance from Stones, always looking to step out of defence and play the ball forward. Made a couple of crucial interceptions.
Aleks Kolarov – 6.5
Did okay throughout the game but was nowhere to be seen as Clichy was caught in between a Negredo and De Roon sandwich for Boro’s equaliser.
Gael Clichy – 5
Dreadful from Gael today. Offered nothing going forward and then didn’t even bother jumping for Boro’s equaliser. Really poor.
Fernandinho – 6
A disappointing game from Fernandinho today, who is clearly in need of a rest. Gave the ball away in dangerous areas on a number of occasions, and didn’t seem like his usual energetic self.
Ilkay Gundogan – 7
Ilkay played fairly well, showing some nice touches, but failed to control the game. He was replaced by Nolito after 72 minutes.
Jesus Navas – 8
His best game in a City shirt in a long time. He’s been impressive in recent weeks, and followed it up with a good performance today, putting in some lovely crosses and offering width. Surprisingly taken off with the score at 1-0.
Kevin De Bruyne – 8 (Man of the Match)
A delightful ball to unlock Boro’s defence set up what should have been the winning goal. Could have had a second assist had Aguero not mistimed his header. One of only a few that can leave the pitch with their head held high.
David Silva – 7
Like Gundogan, Silva showed some nice touches in some very congested areas, but he was perhaps slightly too hesitant in this game, failing to get the better of Boro’s defence.
Sergio Aguero – 7
Tapped in De Bruyne’s exquisite ball to put City into the lead, but really should have finished the game off. He was very selfish at times, and got himself carded after stupidly lashing out.
Nolito – 6.5
Replaced Gundogan after 72 minutes but never really got involved in the game, apart from a few nice touches here and there.
Aleix Garcia – N/A
Kelechi Iheanacho – N/A
