Manchester City and Pep Guardiola have their eyes on Mexico’s Liga MX with one of its brightest young stars on the Premier League club’s radar.
20-year-old Mexican international midfielder Orbelín Pineda could be set to leave his homeland, with City and other teams interested in acquiring him, according to Mauricio Cuatecontzi of TDN. Cuatecontzi reports that after closely following the Chivas player, City could make their first approach to sign him in the near future.
Chivas owner Jorge Vergara said days ago that Pineda could be Mexico’s new Chicharito, the next great export, but is eager to hold on to the youngster a while longer. Vergara said Pineda is not on the market, although a big offer from a wealthy European club such as City could change his stance.
City’s scouting network in the Americas has been expanded in recent years, and last summer Gabriel Jesus (from Palmeiras, Brazil), Marlos Moreno (from Atlético Nacional, Colombia), Gerónimo Rulli (from Deportivo Maldonado, Uruguay) and teenager Benjamin Garré (from Velez Sarsfield, Argentina) were all snapped up.
