England under-17 head coach Steve Cooper has called up five players from the Manchester City academy for next month’s Croatia Cup tournament, in which the Young Lions will face hosts Croatia, Germany and Greece.
City’s academy is now producing some of Europe’s brightest young prospects and it is reflected in this squad, with no other club having as many representatives.
The five young Blues to have been called up are:
– Curtis Anderson (Goalkeeper)
– Joel Latibeaudiere (Defender)
– Phil Foden (Forward)
– Ian Carlo Poveda (Forward)
– Jadon Sancho (Forward)
Anderson, Latibeaudiere and Foden have risen through the ranks of City’s academy, while Sancho joined from Watford for £66,000 last year, a fee that could eventually rise to £500,000. Former La Masia youngster Poveda arrived this summer after Brentford’s academy disbanded.
England’s campaign opens against Croatia on Wednesday 28 September, before they face Greece two days later. A big match against Germany concludes the Croatia Cup for the U17s on Monday 3 October at the Stadium Aldo Drosina, Pula.
