Bacary Sagna could present Pep Guardiola with a boost by being available for selection in this weekend’s Manchester derby.
With Pablo Zabaleta due back late on Thursday from international duty with Argentina, Sagna’s fitness could give Pep a fresh and well-rested option for the right side of defence.
Speaking to CityTV, the Frenchman said:
“I feel good. I had to rest a bit because I had a little tear in my hamstring.
“I enjoyed that time to work with the physios, to make myself stronger. I had a long summer, a long season last year so I need to take care of my body.
“I feel great and looking forward to Saturday. I’m going to give it my maximum to training and to try and feel as fit as possible. Then the manager will have to make some choices.”
Sagna spoke of City’s expectations and strategy for the match against United, which will see Guardiola and Mourinho square off for the first time since taking over the Manchester giants:
“We’re going to try to dictate the game. We’re still working really hard. Every single day we’re learning more and more but we’re all focused to look forward.
“We’re going to have to go through games like Saturday, compete every single game. As players we have to push ourselves. We have good competition between us.
“Last season we started really well but could not focus the whole season.”
