Watch: David Silva becomes Spain’s fifth all-time leading goal scorer

David Silva tonight took a step closer to legend status in Spanish football with two goals and an assist against Liechtenstein in Spain’s 8-0 thrashing of the European minnows.

The two goals took Silva to 28 for Spain, overtaking Fernando Morientes and going one behind fourth all-time top scorer, Fernando Hierro. For an attacking midfielder, these are impressive numbers and ‘Merlin’ also has 23 assists for Spain.

Not to be forgotten is Nolito, who bagged a hat-trick of assists tonight, the last of them to set up Silva’s second goal of the game.

Silva has scored four goals in two games during the current international break, including two against Belgium. Both he and Nolito are in fine form heading into Saturday’s Manchester derby.
