Eliaquim Mangala was presented as a Valencia player today, along with fellow centre-back recruit Ezequiel Garay. 8,000 fans flocked to the Mestalla to welcome the two, who are likely to form a new partnership at the back for the troubled La Liga side.
Mangala joined Valencia on loan on deadline day, but neither City or Valencia confirmed at the time whether the Spanish club had an option to buy the 25-year-old defender.
However, Jesús García Pitarch, director of football at Valencia, today confirmed that they do have a purchase option on Mangala next summer if he impresses. Pitarch, or ‘Suso’ as he is nicknamed, refused to reveal how much the option to buy is set at, but expressed confidence that the club will use it.
Mangala himself has already expressed his enthusiasm to continue at the Mestalla, but first of all has to start playing and demonstrate he is worth recruiting on a full-time basis.
