Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune have announced Manuel Pellegrini as their new manager.
The Chilean, nicknamed ‘The Engineer’, had been without a club since he left Manchester City back in May. Having been linked with a host of top teams – including Chelsea, Everton, Southampton and AC Milan – Pellegrini has decided to to ply his trade in the country home to the world’s fastest growing football market.
Hebei lie fifth in the Chinese Super League after 23 games, and have lost seven of their last ten matches in all competitions. The owners of the club were very unhappy with the progress of the team under former manager, Li Tie (once of Everton), and so saw fit to make a managerial change.
Pellegrini will have no shortage of quality in his side (relative to the rest of the league), with former Premier League players Gervinho, Gael Kakuta and Stephane M’Bia already at the club. Their star player is a household name also, former Paris St Germain and Napoli winger, Ezequiel Lavezzi.
Just seven games remain of this current season in China, and so Pellegrini will have his work cut out to try and salvage a disappointing season.
Good luck, Manuel.
