Kevin De Bruyne: Leroy Sané is a class player and I want him to shine with my assists

Kevin De Bruyne is a man who knows the Bundesliga and faced off against Leroy Sané before most had even heard about him. After an impressive spell on loan at Werder Bremen, he joined Wolfsburg and became one of the league’s standout players before joining Manchester City a year later. Shortly before his move to Manchester, KDB’s Wolfsburg side drew 1-1 with Schalke, with the goal scorers being himself and a very young Sané.

De Bruyne and Sané will play together in the same team this coming season, and the 25-year-old assist king has been speaking to SPORT BILD about his new teammate.

“Leroy Sané is a class player. I want him to shine with my assists,” De Bruyne said to the German publication. “My aim is the title. To reach this it’s important we have new players like Sané or Gündoğan.”

Despite the arrival of Pep Guardiola and some impressive signings, this could be one of the toughest seasons in history. TV money means every club can splash out on high-quality players, and De Bruyne was asked about City’s competition. He was particularly wary of neighbours United, saying, “Manchester United is strong again with Pogba and Ibrahimovic. Players like these help the league. But I think Chelsea and Arsenal will be strong, too.”

With Sané and De Bruyne feeding each other passes this summer, not to mention Agüero, Sterling and Nolito, City could have one of the most potent attacks in Europe. In a few days time, what should be an epic battle for the Premier League begins…
