In an exclusive interview with the Norwegian online newspaper Nettavisen, Bersant Celina revealed that he will likely go on loan for the 2016/17 season, with FC Twente the favourites for his signature. Celina, who recently signed a 4-year contract with the Blues, has expressed his frustration at his pathway being blocked by a number of the club’s new signings – most notably Nolito, Leroy Sané and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
“A loan will be perfect, it’s what I need right now.
“The club has a lot of players but still continues to buy. There is nothing I can do about it.
“I cannot be put into the team ahead of a £40 million player (Sané). It unfortunately does not work like that.”
After a couple of impressive cameo performances last season, Celina would have been hoping to make a real impression on the first team this time around. But Guardiola’s insistence upon recruiting the likes of Sané and Zinchenko (both of whom play in Celina’s position and are of the same age profile) seems to have pushed the Kosovan way down the pecking order. A loan deal is now undoubtedly the best option for both the club and the player, as Celina seeks to get some valuable playing-time under his belt.
Celina failed to specify whether the loan deal would last for six months or the entire season, but one thing did seem clear from his interview – FC Twente’s interest is strong. A move to the Eredivise is likely.
