Pep Guardiola spoke to the press after today’s win over Borussia Dortmund, and when asked about John Stones and Leroy Sané, he was again honest and didn’t dodge the question like his predecessor would have.
“Sané is a Schalke player. We want him. If it works, I’ll be happy! If not, I’ll be happy for Schalke and their fans.”
“[In Stones’ case] it’s the same as the answer for Sané – he’s a player for Everton. Everyone knows we’re going to try but we will see.”
City appear very close to deals for both young players as they continue to retool an ageing squad. Despite a disappointing season in the last campaign, Stones is still very highly regarded by the Premier League’s top clubs, with rivals United and Chelsea having also shown heavy interest in him, along with Spanish giants Barcelona.
Sané is another coveted by Europe’s elite, along with Gabriel Jesus, who is looking closer and closer to joining City every day. The three could join Oleksandr Zinchenko, who has already impressed in pre-season, and Marlos Moreno, who confirmed last night that he will join the Blues this weekend.
