Manchester City are still trying to agree a fee with Schalke for wunderkind Leroy Sané, and might want to hurry up in light of what the player’s own father has said.
According to Leroy’s dad Souleymane Sané, a former footballer himself, City are not the only club interested in his son. Bayern Munich’s admiration for the Germany winger has been known of for a long time, but it had seemed that they were out of the race. According to BILD, however, an injury to Arjen Robben has the Bundesliga champions considering a renewed attempt to sign the 20-year-old.
Souleymane also says Real Madrid are interested, though there have been very few reports out of Spain to back this claim up. At the Bernabéu, he would struggle for game time more than at City, where Jesús Navas would be his main competition on the right wing.
Though Souleymane Sané has claimed that the two European giants are in competition with City for Leroy Sané, it is important to note that he is listed as an employee of T21Plus, Leroy’s agency. So this may be more than a father being honest to the press, and he may be acting on behalf of his employees and trying to make City cough up the extra money Schalke want for his son.
Either way, City may want to conclude this deal soon, because Bayern Munich are known for their quick and efficient deals. Just ask Manchester United, who thought they had Renato Sanches in the bag…
