Manchester City have won the race for Schalke winger Leroy Sané, one of European football’s hottest prospects, according to tomorrow’s edition of Bild.
The Blues have been pursuing the Germany winger for months, having first tried to sign him back in January. Schalke had hoped to receive an answer on his future during Euro 2016, but the youngster was unable to give them one.
Now, according to the German newspaper, “Pep has snatched Sané from Bayern”, with the 20-year-old agreeing to join Guardiola’s team on a four-year deal. Bayern Munich also want to sign him, but would prefer him to move to the Allianz next summer, and Sané wants an immediate switch to his next club.
Bild states that while there is a personal agreement, City have yet to make their formal offer to Schalke. This is expected in the next week, with the final fee likely to be in the region of €55 million (£46.5 million).
Should this deal go through, it would mean City have acquired one of the most coveted young talents in Europe, showing the appeal that working with Pep Guardiola has for such players. As the Laporte and Aubameyang stories taught us, it’s always useful to temper your expectations, but the signs are positive from Germany that Leroy Sané is on his way to Manchester City.
