Pep Guardiola has held his first training session and City fans are buzzing about it on social media.
The new City boss is still missing many of his biggest names, but this gives some of the youngsters a chance to impress. Those who haven’t been on international duty, such as Yaya Touré, Samir Nasri and Aleksandar Kolarov – three players linked with moves away – also have a chance to impress Guardiola.
The most striking thing about the training session was how vocal and expressive Guardiola was. We didn’t often get to see Pellegrini-led training, but it’s hard to imagine him being as animated as the 45-year-old was in this session.
Pep barked out instructions and immediately began working on implementing his philosophy. A clear focus was on playing the ball out from the back, working as a unit, and using the width of the pitch. There was also a glimpse of the personal relationships he builds with players, as he spoke to Gaël Clichy and gave him a hug.
These early sessions will allow Guardiola to understand who is cut out for his challenging style of play, and possibly allow him to find a gem from the younger age groups he can promote.
