Nolito has joined İlkay Gündoğan and Aaron Mooy through the door, but don’t expect Manchester City’s spending to stop any time soon. According to various reports, highly-rated Ukrainian winger Oleksandr Zinchenko is very close to being confirmed as a City player.
19-year-old Zinchenko, a left winger who can comfortably switch flanks, has long been linked with a move to the Etihad, but there have been conflicting reports on whether he’d move to Manchester or Germany with Borussia Dortmund.
In the past 24 hours, the Manchester Evening News, Sky Sports and Guardian journalist Ed Aarons have all confirmed that Zinchenko is on the verge of joining City from Russian Premier League side Ufa, where he has played since 2015.
The likelihood is he will be loaned out to continue his development, but well-connected PSV journalist Rik Elfrink last night put a quick end to rumours Zinchenko will head to the Eredivisie, stating on Twitter that the youngster isn’t on their list of planned targets. Elfrink did confirm today, though, that PSV had informal talks with City about Zinchenko, with the Blues offering him on loan to several clubs already.
But who is Oleksandr Zinchenko? Back in May, we asked Manchester-born Russian football expert Andrew Flint about him, so be sure to check that out.
