There have been reports this week that Manchester City have won the race to sign Marlos Moreno, the highly-rated 19-year-old attacker who appeared for Colombia at this summer’s Copa América Centenario.
The Daily Mail, Goal and SportItalia have all claimed a deal is done or almost done for the Atlético Nacional starlet to join City this summer, but his agent has today moved to slow things down.
Speaking to firenzeviola.it, Moreno’s representative Eladio Tamayo said a final decision will not be made until Friday. They plan to hold talks with his club to discuss the offers made, one of them alleged to have come from City, and only then will they make a decision on his destination.
Of rumours linking Moreno to City and Fiorentina, Tamayo said, “At the moment all the rumours are just speculations because the player, after playing at Copa América, is concrentrating on the Libertadores with his club. I repeat, there will be a final decision on Friday about Marlos Moreno and it will be announced by his club.”
According to Sam Lee at Goal, if City do win the race for the prodigious youngster, it’s expected he will be loaned to Spain for the 2016-17 season, with a work permit unlikely to be obtained right away.
