Last Friday, BILD broke the news that Leroy Sané would decide his future by today. Would he stay at Schalke, join Manchester City, or follow the well-trodden path of moving to Bayern Munich?
Today, Schalke coach Markus Weinzierl called the German national team to speak to the winger and finally get an answer. However, after a discussion in which Weinzierl argued why he thinks the youngster should stay rather than join City (Bayern Munich were not mentioned in tonight’s article), Sané was unable to give his new club manager a decision on his future.
Schalke are eager for clarification on Sané’s future because were he to leave, they would need to plan ahead. According to BILD, though, there may not be another opportunity for them to speak to their in-demand wunderkind as long as Germany are in Euro 2016, meaning several clubs could be left waiting anxiously.
The Gelsenkirchen-based club are very close to beating Manchester United to the €20 million signing of Basel forward Breel Embolo, which would be a club record transfer. Although Schalke are saying this is unrelated to Sané’s future, many are speculating that such an outlay suggests they are resigned to losing the 20-year-old.
For now, though, this saga will continue and we wait to learn if Leroy Sané is joining Manchester City.
