One of the big stories in Spain right now is the future of Barcelona superstar Neymar. Although Barcelona-leaning newspapers and radio stations believe a contract renewal is a formality, many other reliable sources believe Barca are worried that a wealthy club will trigger his €190 million release clause.
The most interested suitor appears to be PSG, who are set to appoint a new coach and want to begin a new cycle in search of the Champions League trophy. But what of Manchester City? It has been reported that CEO Ferran Soriano pursued Neymar before he chose Barcelona, so could a renewed bid be on the cards?
According to today’s edition of SPORT, Pep Guardiola has specifically told Soriano and sporting director Txiki Begiristain not to pursue any potential deal for the 24-year-old Brazilian superstar.
The Catalan newspaper notes that City are in a financial position to sign Neymar, but Guardiola is not only doesn’t think the signing is necessary, he believes the player may struggle to adapt to a new environment in the English league and needs to mature more before any such move should be considered.
