Aymeric Laporte is on a deadline. The 22-year-old Athletic Bilbao defender must decide his future this weekend, with both his club and Manchester City demanding clarity on his future by mid-week at the absolute latest.
Mundo Deportivo report that Laporte has to decide his future immediately, with both clubs telling him they can wait no longer.
Laporte has known for months that Pep Guardiola wants him at City and Marca reported the other day that he Basque club expect to lose him to City.
City are ready to pay his full release clause of €50 million (£39.5 million) at a moment’s notice, and just need Laporte’s final decision to make the deal a formality. Athletic are willing to make the 22-year-old defender their best paid player, but that would still be nowhere near what City are offering him.
Laporte must decide: stay at Athletic Bilbao or join Manchester City. In the next few days, we should finally have an answer.
