Could fan favourite Pablo Zabaleta have a future at City after all? Rumoured to be one of those most at risk of Guardiola’s axe this summer, it has seemed inevitable that the Argentine is on his way out of the Etihad after eight memorable years.
However, his agent, Federico Pastorello, has suggested tonight that this may not be the case. Speaking to the microphones of SportItalia, Pastorello said of Inter target Zaba:
“Guardiola has confirmed him at Manchester City and it is therefore difficult to for him to move.
“However, we will continue to evaluate various opportunities.”
What he means by ‘confirmed’ isn’t quite clear, but the implication is that Pep may still have plans for 31-year-old Zabaleta. Of course, the summer is still young and Pastorello said himself that they will continue to assess their options.
Guardiola teams are known for their energetic full-backs, and with all four of City’s aged over 30, this seems an area in urgent need of renewal. But perhaps Zaba’s City exit isn’t as clear-cut as first thought…
