Recent comments by Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa saying Pep Guardiola had a clause in his contract forbidding him from signing Bayern Munich players led to some confusion. After all, how could Bayern possibly dictate the terms of Pep’s agreement with Manchester City?
Costa’s comments may have been a case of ‘lost in translation’ and City were quick to deny the existence of any such clause, telling members of the press that it doesn’t exist.
Today, final confirmation that Pep and City could target Bayern Munich players if they wish. Speaking at the DFL meeting in Frankfurt, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated clearly: “There is no agreement.”
The 60-year-old, who is also chairman of the European Club Association, added that he is not concerned about City making advances for big names like Neuer, Lewandowski or Costa, calling Pep a “sensitive person” who is likely to respect his previous employer.
