On This Day – April 23: City win their first major honour, the FA Cup (1904)

On April 23 in City history…

1904: Manchester City win their first major trophy, courtesy of a 1-0 win in the FA Cup Final against Bolton Wanderers. The game was held at Crystal Palace, and football legend Billy Meredith was the scorer, though there was an amount of controversy with the City star possibly offside.

2005: City leave Ewood Park hugely frustrated after a 0-0 stalemate with Blackburn Rovers. It was, however, part of an eight game unbeaten run, with City finishing the season strongly under Stuart Pearce.

Happy Birthday: Steve Carter (63), Darren Huckerby (40)
