İlkay Gündoğan will be one of the first big names through the door with Pep Guardiola this summer, after signing a 5-year deal with City according to Bild am Sonntag (Bild on Sunday).
The newspaper states as fact that 25-year-old Gündoğan, a key player for Borussia Dortmund over the past five years, will leave the club to join Manchester City when the season finishes. In fact, Bild am Sonntag confidently declare that he has already put pen to paper on a contract.
Whether this is possible with the two clubs having not quite agreed a fee is a valid question, but a figure of around £24 million (€30 million) is under discussion according to the German publication, significantly less than the £30 million reported in The Sun’s own exclusive the other day. A full agreement seems like a formality now.
Gündoğan’s contract with Dortmund runs until June 2017, and with the German international unwilling to extend that deal, BVB are resigned to selling him. With so many reports of him rocking up at the Etihad, Manchester City look almost certain to sign one of Europe’s most talented central midfielders.
