1898: Manchester City get the better of Luton Town, beating the southern side 2-1. Billy Meredith scored both of City’s goals, with the legendary outside forward going on to make 394 appearances for City.
1983: City fans leave Maine Road hugely frustrated after a 1-0 loss to Ipswich Town. The game was witnessed by a crowd of 21,845 at City’s former home, and it was also the last season in which club legend Dennis Tueart played for the club.
