Manchester City appear to be edging closer to the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder İlkay Gündoğan.
Pep Guardiola is said to be an admirer of 25-year-old Gündoğan and recent reports from Di Marzio and others suggested that City’s interest is real.
Now news from Italy, where Corriere dello Sport believe City may be close to securing a deal for Gündoğan.
Gündoğan’s contract expires in 2017 and the German international and is also wanted by Juventus, who sense the opportunity to get him below market value because of his contract situation. The problem for the Old Lady, though, is they simply can’t match the financial power of City and the report states that City’s package may be too much for the bargain hunting Italian champions.
CdS claim City and Dortmund are already in talks over a €30m (£27.1m) deal for the player, whose contract expires in 2017, and are prepared to pay him a salary of around £90,000 per week. Juventus will not sit by idly, the report says, and are eager to snap up Dortmund ace. However, Gündoğan is reported to be very keen on working with Pep, so even ignoring City’s financial clout, the Blues may have that advantage as the race hots up for the talented midfielder.
