Competing on four fronts is stretching City’s squad to its limit, with Jesús Navas the latest casualty. The extent of Navas’ injury won’t be made public until Pellegrini’s presser tomorrow, but it looked like a hamstring and possibly weeks out. He did not train today, reducing City’s attacking midfield options even further.
However, the great news is that Vincent Kompany trained normally and without any problems. City believe they may have cracked the issue with his calf problem, but only time will tell. Saturday’s game against Leicester may be too soon for our captain to start, but he is close.
Kompany completed today’s training session, while Angelino was involved again. Despite Kolarov and Clichy both being available again, Angelino is still involved with the first-team squad. Perhaps with the dwindling numbers of attackers, Pellegrini has a back-up plan of using Angelino or Kolarov on the left wing?
With De Bruyne, Nasri and Navas all sidelined, and Roberts up north at Celtic, free kick specialist Bersant Celina may be awarded some minutes off the bench. One of the EDS’ most promising players, Celina made two FA Cup appearances as a substitute in January and was on the bench against Sunderland. Sinan Bytyqi (also involved today) and Brandon Barker, who was also on the bench on Tuesday night, are other options with so many missing.
