A dream move home to Racing Club didn’t pan out for Bruno Zuculini after a salary dispute between clubs, but new reports from Argentina indicate he could find a club before the January transfer window slams shut.
Zuculini’s stock has dropped since he joined City, the result of several disappointing loan moves, but he does appear to have a fan in Gus Poyet. Poyet was interested in Zuculini while in charge of Sunderland, only for Premier League rules to scupper the deal. Now, according to TyCSports in Argentina and some local reports in Greece, the Uruguayan coach is set to take the 22-year-old to Athens.
Poyet is currently in charge of Greek side AEK Athens, and they are said to be very close to snapping up Zuculini on a 6-month loan deal. The deal could be closed as soon as tomorrow, with Zuculini poised to join AEK in their near impossible task of catching runaway league leaders Olympiacos.
With his future almost certainly away from Manchester, a successful loan spell in Greece could result in Zuculini joining the 11-time Greek champions on a permanent deal next summer.
