Real Betis right-back Cristiano Piccini is the latest of many to be linked with City. However, this link comes from one of Europe’s most reliable transfer sources, the renowned Gianluca Di Marzio, so it almost certainly has some substance.
Di Marzio says that City have 23-year-old Piccini ‘under a magnifying glass’ and are watching the Italian at every Betis game ahead of a possible bid in the coming months. Roberto Mancini’s Inter have also previously shown interest.
Piccini only joined Betis on a permanent deal from Fiorentina this season, after spending a year on loan. He has stood out and caught the eye in La Liga with impressive performances, and that has led to City ramping up their interest.
On Monday, there was news of Inter’s interest in Pablo Zabaleta, one of four full-backs at City over the age of 30. At 23, Piccini could be a candidate to bring the average age of our full-backs down. No doubt there are others also being watched by City’s expansive scouting network.
