Last summer’s Yaya Toure transfer saga could be revisited, if Gazzetta dello Sport is to be believed.
The Italian newspaper claims Yaya and former City boss Roberto Mancini have exchanged phone calls in recent days. They don’t pretend to have an inside track on what the two spoke about, and it could have been something as innocent as Christmas greetings.
Pep Guardiola’s name is at the centre of the story and how his expected arrival at City could impact Toure’s future. Barcelona sold Yaya to City in 2010 while Guardiola was in charge of the Catalan side. Pep preferred Sergio Busquets in midfield, allowing City to make one of their greatest signings ever.
So if Pep does take over at City, would he fancy a much older Yaya Toure in his team or would he ask Txiki to bring in some fresh blood? This is what has Gazzetta suspicious about the phone calls and they believe that should Mancio’s resurgent Inter qualify for the Champions League, Yaya could rock up in Milan after all.
