Christmas Day brought us the unexpected story from Mundo Deportivo that City are ‘stalking’ Barcelona superstar Neymar.
The basis of the link is that Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain want to hand an elite world superstar to Pep Guardiola, who Mundo Deportivo claim agreed to join City on November 26.
Neymar has been linked with City in the past and a play was made for his services before he joined Barcelona. Young, talented and good-looking, he is an ideal poster boy for a growing brand like City, but such an acquisition is easier said than done. Neymar is the man Barca will look to lead them forward when Messi declines (if that ever happens).
So what to make of Neymar’s comments today? He was ambushed by an AS reporter while leaving El Prat airport and in a matter of seconds confirmed City’s interest as real, said he wouldn’t follow Pep to City, then appeared to leave the door ajar. Transcript:
City interest: “Yes, yes.”
Guardiola has apparently asked for you at City. Would you go with him? “No, not that.”
So you rule out leaving Barcelona? “I don’t know, life is long.”
Neymar to City? Don’t count on it, but with Barcelona’s wage bill reaching of 73% of income, a mega-offer for a star like Neymar could tempt a few of their board members.
