As the English press continues to raise the hopes of United and Chelsea fans, in Germany they seem certain that Pep Guardiola will be Manchester City’s next coach.
Last Saturday, ZDF were the first reputable German source to state definitively that City would welcome world football’s most wanted coach and a day later Bild am Sonntag said likewise.
Throughout the week, more and more leaks have pointed towards Pep reuniting with his pals Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain at the Etihad, Bild telling us on Monday that his family are now speaking openly about a move to Manchester.
Today we’ve had THREE big stories from Germany and we’re now at the point where it almost seems a done deal — if you believe the Germans.
The always reliable Kicker confirmed via their own English sources that Guardiola will coach City from this summer onwards and Sport Bild (not to be confused with Bild) followed that up with the revelation that Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has known since October that Pep has had a verbal agreement to join City.
Bild finished off an exciting day of Pep talk by claiming he will become the world’s best paid coach on an incredible €25m (£18.3m) per year. Those figures are jaw-dropping but money talks and City’s craving for Pep is one of football’s worst kept secrets.
This will undoubtedly drag on but the confidence of top German sources is reason for City fans to get excited.
